Saint-Pierre Church, Modena
Modena, Italy · 2015
Project Overview
Seismic strengthening of the Saint-Pierre church and its adjacent tower, damaged during the 2012 Emilia-Romagna earthquake, requiring a balanced approach between structural securing and heritage conservation. The intervention was developed together with the regional seismic authority and the cultural heritage superintendency, ensuring regulatory compliance and the protection of historic values. The main objective was to eliminate local collapse mechanisms and reinforce the masonry structures while respecting the existing historic fabric. The presence of frescoes and the architectural characteristics called for specific, non-invasive technical solutions, reaching a seismic safety level compliant with current requirements and lastingly improving the building's resilience.
